wim Smooth Coaching: Freestyle Stroke technique For Triathlon & Swimming

About Swim Smooth

Smooth swimming coaches seek partners for fast athletic fun. Great times and fast strokes guaranteed.

A very warm welcome to Swim Smooth from Paul Newsome and the rest of the Swim Smooth team!

Swim Smooth is an innovative swimming coaching company devoted to all levels of swimmers and triathletes. Whether you're a beginner who'd like to learn freestyle, an intermediate triathlete who wants to swim faster or an advanced swimmer looking to excel further, Swim Smooth is for you.

Sadly we can't be standing on everyone's poolside helping them with their swimming. Instead we've worked long and hard developing our products to deliver high quality swimming know-how directly to swimmers around the world.

Our over-riding goal is to raise the standard of swimming coaching and the level of knowledge available to amateur swimmers and triathletes around the world. Here at Swim Smooth we just say: 'The World Needs Better Swimming'.

With this objective in mind we host a Coaches Network. If you are a coach or prospective coach then find out more about this exciting way of sharing knowledge and experiences for everyone's benefit.

the Mr Smooth Console

- Each of the frames is numbered on the bottom right of the screen. We did this to aid discussion of his stroke, so if you have a question or something to discuss on our forum you can quote a frame number or range and everyone can refer to the stroke area you're talking about. You can visit our forum here: www.swimsmoothforum.com. It's easy to create a logon, ask questions about swimming and get involved with the discussions!

- Here are some classic frames to check out :

Frame 10: A great view of the catch, especially good from the classic view without water. As you catch, try and keep your elbow higher than your wrist like this. Don't force it, smoothly hit this position as you swim.

Frame 57: A great view of how straight Mr Smooth is in the water (view from underneath). As you swim, extend your lead arm forward straight in front of its shoulder and be careful not to cross over the centre line (we call this a 'cross-over'). You can also look at this frame from the front and rear and get a great view of his rotation from the hips.

Frame 230: A nice view of kicking technique. View from the side angles and the rear. Mr Smooth's left leg is about to kick down. Notice how his leg is nearly straight and that his foot is relaxed and floppy. Try and do this as you swim, kick from the hip and keep your knees and feet relaxed.

Frame 283: Shows classic 'front quadrant' stroke timing. By this we mean that as the recovery arm comes over the top it over-takes the stroking arm (under the water) in front of the head. This you gives a longer more efficient stroke and much more support when you breathe.

- Each viewing angle has a title, such as 'classic side' or 'perfect front'. When discussing his stroke on the web we suggest you stick to these names.

- Have you noticed that all the views are synchronised? So you can pause Mr Smooth in a position and change the view - keeping him in that exact same position!
