Fernando Alonso, Rafael Nadal y Pau Gasol están entre los 50 deportistas mejor pagados del mundo según la lista que elabora la revista Forbes y que es liderada un año más por el golfista estadounidense Tiger Woods. La revista publica en su web un ránking de los deportistas mejor pagados del mundo -tanto por su trabajo como por publicidad y otros ingresos-, está liderado por el golfista Tiger Woods (con 75 millones de dólares ganados en los últimos doce meses), seguido de los jugadores de baloncesto en la NBA Kobe Bryant (53 millones) y LeBron James (48).

En esa lista el piloto de Fórmula Uno Fernando Alonso ocupa el undécimo puesto con unos ingresos de 32 millones de dólares, el tenista Rafael Nadal es duodécimo con 31,5 millones, y el jugador de baloncesto Pau Gasol, con 18,9 millones, ocupa el penúltimo puesto. Los diez primeros puestos de la lista son, además de los tres ya mencionados, para Roger Federer (47 millones), Phil Mickelson (46,5), David Beckham (40), Cristiano Ronaldo (38), Alex Rodríguez (35), Michael Schumacher (34) y Lionel Messi (32,3).

También forman parte de la lista los futbolistas brasileños Kaká (en el puesto 24 con 25 millones) y Ronaldinho (en el 27, con 24,7 millones). Según Forbes, los 50 deportistas mejor pagados, en la que hay una mayoría de origen estadounidense (29), han ganado en el último año un total de 1.400 millones de dólares, lo que supone un descenso del 11 por ciento respecto a los doce meses anteriores y representa una media de 28 millones por jugador.

Todos ellos tienen una media de 32 años de edad, siendo el mayor Schumacher, con 42 años, y el más joven Messi, con 23 años. La única mujer que forma parte de este privilegiado grupo de deportistas es la tenista Maria Sharapova, que ocupa el puesto 29, con unos ingresos de 24,2 millones de dólares. Por deportes, según detalla Forbes en su web, el más representado es el baloncesto, con 15 jugadores en el ránking, seguido del béisbol (11), las carreras de coches (7), el fútbol (6), el golf (4), el fútbol americano (3), el tenis (3) y el boxeo (1).
