The New Year's Concert on ORF

The televised production of the concert is in the hands of the ORF, with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) acting as partner for the transmission across Europe. The ORF has prepared a comprehensive accompanying program for viewers in Austria, beginning on New Year's Day at 9:35 AM with a matinee in which the most attractive ballet scenes from previous New Year's Concerts will be shown. At 9:55, the programming continues with a documentary about Franz Welser-Möst, and at 10:40, the program "Auftakt" sets the stage for this traditional concert.

The New Year's Concert itself will be broadcast live and in the highest quality beginning at 11:15 AM in ORF2 and Ö1 radio. It will be broadcast again on January 6th at 8:15 PM in 3sat and on January 6th at 10:05 AM in ORF 2. In the intermission, ORF 2 will show "Die Wiener Philharmoniker auf hoher See", a documentary by Hannes Rossacher, while in Ö1 radio, Franz Welser-Möst speaks on "Im Künstlerzimmer". The documentary "Die Welt der Wiener Philharmoniker" offers insights into the daily life of the orchestra on January 2nd at 2:00 PM on 3sat.

In view of the tradition of the New Year's Concerts, which began during the Second World War, the Vienna Philharmonic performs the concert even today not only as a presentation of Viennese musical culture at the highest level, but also to send the world a New Year's greeting in the spirit of hope, friendship and peace.
