ARWS Rankings Released December 2015

The recently crowned World Champion adventure racing team from New Zealand, team Seagate, has moved into the world number 1 ranked position in spectacular style (700 points). This recent update of the Adventure Racing World Rankings includes results from the World Championship in Brazil.
It is safe to say that Seagate have dominated the international adventure racing calendar over the last two years, putting together a collection of results which haven’t before been seen in the history of the World Rankings. The World Ranking counts a team’s four best results over the last two years of racing with the AR World Championship counting for 2.5x the value. Team Seagate have not only scored maximum points at the recent Brazil championship (250) but are the first team in the history of the World Series to win back to back World Championships (Brazil 2015 and Ecuador 2014). Combining points from two world championship victories (250 each) and wins at two Qualifiers (100 each), Seagate have obtained the highest possible score of 700 on the AR World Rankings.
Stepping down into 2nd position after almost a year on top is team Columbia Oncosec (556 points). It will be a tough job for them to climb back to number one, though it is likely they will hold strong to number 2 through to the next world championship. The USA team Adventure Medical Kits (previously team Tecnu) currently maintain their third position in the World Rankings (458 points).
Haglofs Silva have put their run of bad luck at World Championships behind them with their highest championship result (2nd), pushing them up the rankings to 4th in the world (398 points). Just 27 points behind in 5th position is the Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team (371 points) who have climbed up from 11th in the previous ranking cycle.
It will be a close fight over the coming 12 months as the two Swedish teams of Haglofs Silva ranked 4th (398 points) and Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team (SAFAT) ranked 5th (371 points) power up the rankings. SAFAT look to be the biggest threat to Adventure Medical Kits as a win at a Qualifier in the next round will move them up into third in the world, where a second place will move them into fourth, just 2 points behind Adventure Medical Kits!
The ever consistent French Raidlight-Naturex maintain their ranking of 6th (364 points), and so too Merrell from South Africa in 7th (355 points). Dropping places in the top ten were GODZone Adventure Team - Expedicion Guarani to 8th (338 points), Peak Performance to 9th (306 points) and YogaSlackers (275 points).
An impressive display of tenacity by Estonian ACE Adventure in Brazil saw them finishing in 5th place. Combining this with their points from a second place result in Expedition Africa earlier in 2015, they have jumped up from 26th ranking to 11th in the world (223 points). This is the first time a team from Estonia has ranked in the world to 20 and hopefully the AR World Series will see more of this team in the coming season.
Fenix Multisport - Adidas from the Czech Republic survived Brazil and have moved into the world top 20 for the first time ranked 18th (133) points. This is the second team from the Czech Republic to feature in the top 20. Black Hill OpavaNet from the Czech Republic maintained a top 20 ranking through the previous 2 cycles but their retirement in Brazil has seen them drop to a ranking of 22nd in the world (103 points).
The next cycle of rankings will include results from the Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge (Belize) in February, Godzone Adventure (New Zealand) in April, Tierra Viva (Chile) also in April, and Expedition Africa (South Africa) in May.
