El invento canario para grabar a los infractores y proteger a los ciclistas
El 'gadget' se encuentra en fase de financiación a través de 'crowdfunding'

En España se producen de media más 3.700 heridos y 50 muertes al año en accidentes de bicicleta, según los datos del INE. Dos de esos accidentes, ocurridos de forma casi consecutiva el verano de 2014 en Lanzarote –uno de ellos con fuga–, fueron el detonante para que cuatro jóvenes de la isla se pusieran a trabajar en un proyecto para proteger a los ciclistas. Fue el germen de CycloShield, un gadget que pretende minimizar los riesgos en caso de accidente.
"En Lanzarote hay muchos ciclistas que entrenan solos", cuenta por teléfono a Verne Tanausú Tejera, uno de los cuatro socios del proyecto. "Y si te pasa algo, estás en serios problemas". CycloShield entraría en acción en esos casos: si se produce un accidente, el dispositivo envía una alerta al 112 con la localización de la bicicleta. Además, si un coche sobrepasa la distancia de seguridad permitida –1,5 metros–, la cámara que incorpora el gadget se conecta y graba el vehículo y su matrícula, mientras una señal sonora alerta al ciclista.
"Antes, cuando había una fuga tras un atropello, la única forma de localizar al conductor era a través de los talleres de automóviles, si acudían a arreglar el desperfecto", explica Tejera. "Nos dimos cuenta de que no existía ningún dispositivo para grabar infracciones, así que se nos ocurrió la idea de CycloShield, un gadget que incorporara las funciones de monitorización de aplicaciones deportivas pero que ofreciera un plus de seguridad".
Tras dos primeras versiones, Tejera y sus tres socios han lanzado la tercera a través de la plataforma de financiación colectiva Kickstarter, en la que cualquier interesado puede aportar dinero para el proyecto –de 1,19 a 2.990 euros– a cambio de recompensas. Todas las inversiones de más de 358 euros (299 libras en los precios de la web, en moneda británica) incluyen al menos un CycloShield.
"Preferíamos probar un Kickstarter antes que un inversor tradicional", explica Tejera. "Es más flexible y bastante mediático". El prototipo actual no será la versión definitiva: "El que presentamos ahora ya es completamente funcional, pero la inversión del Kickstarter es para hacerlo más eficiente, más pequeño..."
Tras aparecer en el diario local Lanzarote al día, el proyecto llegó a posicionarse primero en la portada del agregador de noticias Meneame. "Creo que ha despertado interés porque los ciclistas estamos muy expuestos en la carretera y son conscientes del peligro", explica Tejera. "Yo antes vivía en Alemania y en el ciclismo urbano hay muchas situaciones de riesgo".

Cyclists are the most vulnerable group on the road, this is well known. Rapid response to an incident can mean the difference between survival and a fatality.
CycloShield detects accident and is made to last. If the user is unconscious or unable to respond in time in the event of an accident, the device will send an SOS alert to the emergency system reporting your last known GPS coordinates.

The numbers show that is 17 times more likely to die in an accident for a cyclist than for a car driver.
It can detect lawbreakers and record them in video, you will love this. Disrespectful drivers will hate it. We all love video.
Just install the latch to your seatpost, the device can be attached to it with ease and it is equally quick and easy to remove for when you are far from the bike.
