TOR DES GÉANTS® 2016, THE ATTACK OF OLIVIERO BOSATELLI
Tor des Géants® 2016 is characterized by the withdraws of three top trailers after about 32 hours of extreme racing. It is Denise Zimmermann, who won last year, Michele Graglia and Gianluca Galeati, the two main candidates to the podium, according to their last international performances. But Tor is a very specific race where odds have little value. Too many variables given by the distance and the physical and environmental difficulties.
"I discovered that the Tor is really one of the toughest extreme races in the world," said Michele Graglia, who lives in the US and has already run through ice and deserts across the world. It's really a big challenge to carry on”.
Gianluca Galeati (33 years old like Michele), had to withdraw in Donnas after 150 kilometers as race leader. He had to say said goodbye to Tor 2016 for a stomach virus contracted about three weeks ago. "I thought I was ok but I was not". Moreover he also scraped his knee after a fall, but with no main consequences. Meanwhile Olivero Bosatelli, the caterpillar from Bergamo, continues his race, kilometers after kilometers. During an interview at half way looked like he just left home after the afternoon break: "I do not have strategies, I follow my feeling. And what I feel is a good feeling".
The two Spanish pursuers, Julio Cernuda Aldecoa and Oscar Perez (2012 Tor winner), are not to be underestimated. Especially Perez, who in the past has been able to demonstrate amazing comebacks. Race commissioners decided to disqualify a competitor because part of the mandatory equipment was missing from the backpack. The equipment was required because very important for the trailer's security.
The first competitors have already approached the halfway point. Wednesday morning the first arrivals are expected in Courmayeur, in the renovated and spectacular Jardin de L'Ange located in the city center. It will be a big party, while the "others" 600 athletes will still be on hills and valleys. They will have until Saturday to crown dreams and adventures.

Oliviero Bosatelli arrasa para llevarse el Tor des Geants 2016
El corredor italiano se impuso a otros corredores que parecían partir con más opciones y lideró prácticamente durante los 330 kilómetros. Los españoles siguen luchando por las plazas del podio.

El Tor des Geants 2016 ya tiene nuevo dueño. Se trata del corredor italiano Oliviero Bosatelli, que se ha convertido en el vencedor de la séptima edición de este ultra trail, que cuenta con un trazado de 330 kilómetros y 24.000 metros de desnivel positivo.
A pesar de no partir como uno de los grandes favoritos, Oliviero Bosatelli ha completado una prueba impresionante, liderando prácticamente a lo largo de todo el recorrido y ampliando poco a poco su ventaja frente a uno de los mejores especialistas del mundo, el español Óscar Pérez, que ya venció esta prueba en 2012.Bosatelli ha completado la prueba en un tiempo de 74h38', lejos del mejor tiempo, todavía en manos de Iker Karrera, cuando en 2013 fue capaz de recorrer el trazado en un tiempo de 70h21', que de momento parece inalcanzable.
Por detrás, la batalla todavía durará algunas horas más; en la lucha por el podio, parece que Óscar Pérez se llevará una nueva segunda plaza, sumando un nuevo podio a su historia en el Tor des Geants, en el que es uno de los mejores corredores de su historia.Por detrás, está por ver quién ocupa la última plaza del podio; la lucha por la tercera plaza se esta librando entre el francés Eric Ressencourt y el español Pablo Criado. Ambos marchan muy juntos y han salido del punto de control de Ollomont, en el kilómetro 293, con apenas 4 minutos de ventaja para el atleta francés.
En mujeres, todo indica a que será Lisa Borzani la que se lleve la victoria; la italiana está completando una carrera espectacular y lidera con holgura en su categoría al paso por el kilómetro 293, pero además marcha en 5ª posición de la general, a menos de dos horas del dúo Ressencourt-Criado, que lucha por el podio masculino.La mejor española está siendo Silvia Trigueros, que marcha en segundo lugar al paso por el kilómetro 239, pero seguida muy de cerca por la corredora francesa Maria Semerjian, que le pisa los talones, a apenas tres minutos de Trigueros.Eso sí, ambas tendrán todavía que luchar no sólo entre ellas, sino también con la italiana Marina Plavan, que está remontando posiciones y es cuarta de la clasificación femenina, a apenas 30 minutos de Semerjian.
