GEELONG – Wednesday, September 29, 2010 – When asked about the performance of Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli (FRA) at the women's time trial at the 2010 UCI Road World Championships, the French team was speechless.

The oldest competitor at this year's Championships, Longo-Ciprelli was in the hot seat for a short time, before being dislodged from the podium by eventual winner Emma Pooley (GBR).

The Frenchwoman finished in fifth place, nearly 44 seconds behind the British rider, after a tough time trial.

According to her husband Patrice Ciprelli, Longo-Ciprelli hoped to do well, “as always”, and still goes into every race knowing that she is competitive.

When asked about her goals going into the event today, Longo-Ciprelli said she was aiming for a top ten finish, but added, “I knew that a podium was possible.”

Longo-Ciprelli said that she was in a very positive mood before the start of the time trial today.

“I took the start very positively. I felt rather good,” she said.

When asked about her final result, she concluded, “I’m not extremely pleased but satisfied, just a little bit disappointed not to be on the podium. At 51 years old it is very satisfying.”
