NOVEDAD | En el Salón de Ginebra Goodyear desvela un neumático que mantiene la presión

El fabricante estadounidense de neumáticos Goodyear ha presentado en el Salón Internacional del Automóvil de Ginebra su nueva cubierta con tecnología Air Maintenance Technology (AMT), que permite mantener la presión de forma automática. La Air Maintenance Technology permitirá mantener los neumáticos inflados con una presión óptima, sin necesidad de bombas externas, de electrónica, ni de la intervención del conductor.

La empresa destacó que con una presión adecuada en los neumáticos se genera un ahorro de carburante de 85 euros anuales, equivalente a 57 litros de combustible, con la consiguiente disminución de las emisiones de CO2. Según Jean-Claude Kihn, Vicepresidente Senior de Goodyear y Director Técnico, “esta tecnología reforzará la seguridad en la conducción, mejorará las prestaciones y tendrá un impacto positivo en el medioambiente.

Goodyear no ha precisado cuándo lanzará al mercado esta nueva tecnología, si bien puntualiza que las subvenciones recibidas en Estados Unidos y Luxemburgo permitirán acelerar su desarrollo "con toda seguridad".

By Goodyear ⋅ February 26, 2012 ⋅ Goodyear’s Air Maintenance Technology (AMT) has been selected by Car & Driver magazine as one of the “ten most promising future technologies” in its 2012 10 Best edition. AMT will enable tyres to remain inflated at the optimum pressure without the need for any external pumps or electronics. All components of the AMT system, including the miniaturised pump, will be fully contained within the tyre.

“While the technology is complex, the idea behind the AMT system is relatively simple and powered by the tyre itself as it rolls down the road,” said Jean-Claude Kihn, Goodyear’s chief technical officer.

“A tyre that can maintain its own inflation is something drivers have wanted for many years. Goodyear has taken on this challenge and the progress we have made is very encouraging,” said Kihn. “This will become the kind of technological breakthrough that people will wonder how they ever lived without.”

AMT is currently under development at Goodyear’s Innovation Centres in Akron, Ohio, and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg.
