Following difficulties to find appropriate accommodation for triathlon, trail and marathon events and realizing that the sports community was ready to help one other, we had the idea of creating a platform offering such a service : hospitality based on solidarité within the sport community..
A service where local hosts welcome athletes into their homes and are rewarded for their solidarity by the platform’s trading partners. A service that focuses on creating human connections rather than making a quick buck.
We believed in the concept and we wanted to confirm the interest of the sports community. We conducted a market research and met with various actors from the sports community, federations, event organizers and promoters and potential business partners.
And as we thought: a secured and quality hosting platform would be welcome in the world of competitive and recreational sports.
In preparation of the “real’’ website’s launch, we created an information web page at the summer 2016 and even started to offer the service through general forms – we spontaneously received great feedback from athletes and hosts alike. That convinced us even more to move forward.
Antoine and Julien (full stack developers), Aurelie (designer) and Francis (media content strategy) have now joined the team WelcomeAthletes...

The collaborative and solidarity economy
The collaborative and solidarity economy’s increasing impact in society is a positive sign for the WelcomeAthletes project. Attitudes are changing and society is becoming more receptive to this new kind of economy.
Notwithstanding the saving cost, WelcomeAthletes promotes the creation of social connections between people who share a passion for sports.
Why MakeAChamp.com ?
WelcomeAthletes and MakeAChamp are two Montreal-based startups. They have a similar vision – allowing athletes to pursue their passion by helping them to reduce financial barriers – the association was obvious.
