XTERRA Spain Tour 2018: Rincón de la Victoria on May 19
Roger Serrano is not only one of our best elite athletes in Europe but also an XTERRA race organizer. He started successfully in 2017 with the XTERRA Spain in Tarragona and this year he announced a series of races in Spain, starting with a regional race in Rincón de la Victoria, the place where our 3 times XTERRA World Champion Ruben Ruzafa was born.
We contacted Roger and asked hime to give us some additional info about this race. His reply included not only details about the location, the race course and the accommodation options, but also a special offer for the XTERRA athletes coming from abroad.
‘The city is located just 20km from Málaga and very close to the international airport. The race will take place at the magnificent beach boulevard, where you can enjoy our local gastronomy at it’s best.
The Espeto is the most iconic food of the place, also with fried fresh fish and the famous tapas from Andalucía. They nail sardinas with a cane reed and grill them on the beach…. Spectacular! Don’t need to mention that if you order a beer they give the tapa for free, right?
Sorry guys, the race…
Rincón de la Victoria has some serious mountains. You will understand why Ruben is so strong. The event will have both XTERRA Full and sprint distances. The swim will take place in the nice beach of the city and then you will start climbing up to the mountains to do two different laps with an accumulated elevation of 1050mts in just 28km (for the full distance). Hell yesss. Hills are nice and wide, not as technical as in Tarragona, so you will have free way up! Downhills are fun and fast singletrails and as you won’t do the same lap you won’t find athletes from sprint distance on the way.
The run is more of the same. Following the trails of “la Capitana” the famous trail run race of the area, athletes will have to climb two times a hill that in my opinion, only Italy-Scanno can beat in terms of toughness.
Rincón de la Victoria is a touristic city so there are few hotels for different budgets. Also, Málaga is about 20 minutes drive and its a second option for those who want to spent some time in a big city. Just 500 meters from the start there is a huge parking where athletes will be able to park their cars safely during the race.
Can’t get better right? Well…yes!!
