The world’s premier off-road triathlon, combining a 1.5-kilometer (1-mile) swim that starts at D.T. Fleming Beach in front of the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, a 32-kilometer (20-miles) mountain bike that climbs 3,500 feet up and down the lower slopes of the West Maui Mountains, and a 10.5-kilometer (6.5-miles) trail run that traverses forest trails, and beach sand.

WHO: A sold-out field of 800 racers including 75 professionals and more than 700 amateurs representing 46 countries.

WHEN: 9:00 a.m. HST on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

WHERE: At The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua on Maui’s northwest coast.

WHY: The XTERRA World Championship race is the last in a series of more than 100 off-road triathlon races held in 30 countries and 38 U.S. States. The concept is to provide a bona-fide world championship for amateur and elite off-road triathletes. For pros there is $100,000 in prize money at stake.

WORLD’S PREMIER OFF-ROAD TRIATHLON

This is the 23rd year for the XTERRA World Championship on Maui, the birthplace of off-road triathlon. The first XTERRA race was held here on November 3, 1996 and was televised on Fox Sports Net. The demand for the sport of XTERRA exploded thereafter and there are now more than 50,000 competitors from all 50 states and more than 50 countries worldwide.

WINNER TAKES ALL

It is a “winner take all” race, with one of the richest pro purses in multisport at $105,000, and it is awarded solely on the basis of the Maui performance. Since this race is a stand-alone event, it offers a unique opportunity to competitors as even those who have had a less than stellar season are given an opportunity to redeem themselves and earn the coveted title of XTERRA World Champion.

FILMED FOR TV

This will be the 23rd straight year a nationally (now internationally) broadcast one-hour show will be produced on the event, which showcases Maui’s natural beauty. The 2018 XTERRA World Championship will be seen by more than six million viewers via national syndication (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX), Fox Sports Network, ESPN International, and European distribution. This year’s show will start its run in national syndication in mid-January 2019.

FUN FOR SPECTATORS

The XTERRA Spectator Village will be open in the finish area and offers fun for the whole family including a bounce house and face painting for the kids, games for everyone, live race reports, music, food and beverage and great viewing of the finish line.

Rubén Ruzafa y Roger Serrano, entre los favoritos en el Campeonato del Mundo Xterra

Todo está listo para la gran cita del Triatlón Cros. Llega una nueva edición del Mundial Xterra en su sede anual, la isla de Maui, en Hawaii. El domingo, a partir de las 21h. (hora española), los mejores especialistas de esta disciplina tan espectacular se enfrentarán con el título más prestigioso de la temporada en juego. Y allí, cómo no, estarán Rubén Ruzafa y Roger Serrano con el objetivo de seguir haciendo historia.

De ganar el domingo, Ruzafa sumaría su cuarto título mundial Xterra, algo que haría aún más grande su leyenda. El de Valencia ya se proclamó campeón del mundo ITU de Triatlón Cros esta temporada, por lo que ya ha rendido a un gran nivel en una carrera de alto voltaje. Por su parte, Roger Serano llega a Hawaii después de alzarse con el título de campeón de Europa durante este curso. Además, el catalán ha sumado importantes victorias en las pruebas Xterra de Malta, Chipre, Suiza, Italia, Noruega y Dinamarca. Sin duda, por trayectoria en estos últimos meses, podemos soñar con un gran resultado español el domingo.

Enfrente tendrán, eso sí, a hombres que no lo pondrán nada fácil. Bradley Weiss, que ya ganó en la edición de 2017 y que, por lo tanto, defiende título, es uno de los nombres a tener en cuenta. Como él, Mauricio Méndez y Josiah Middaugh, que también saben lo que es ganar este trofeo, lucharán por la victoria.

Pepe Candón también competirá en este Mundial Xterra

El paratriatleta, acompañado de Macías, su pareja de tándem, también estarán en Maui para competir en la categoría Phisically Challenged Hawaii. Ambos se clasificaron tras el Xterra internacional de Portugal y tras conseguir el Slot iniciaron una campaña para obtener fondos que finalmente ha tenido éxito.
