Men's XCO highlights from Val d'Isère
By RedBull.com team on 29 July 2012 in Mountain Bike Cross-Country
Relive the drama from the men's final XCO World Cup race of the 2012 season in Val d'Isère.
It wasn't just a single cross-country UCI World Cup victory up for grabs in the final race of the season in Val d'Isère yesterday, but the overall World Cup title too.
Nino Schurter started the race as the standings leader and just needed to finish ahead of his closest rival, South Africa’s Burry Stander, to claim the crown. In spite of the treacherously muddy conditions, the Swiss rider managed this and then some with a domineering victory, while Stander ended the race back in seventh.
Nino’s fellow Swiss rider Lukas Flückiger finished second, Italy’s Marco Fontana came in third, and Germany’s Manuel Fumic and Spain’s Jose Antonio Hermida completed the top five.
