Burry Stander muere atropellado por un coche mientras entrenaba

El corredor sudafricano Burry Stander ha fallecido hace unas horas como resultado del atropello que ha sufrido en la ciudad de Durban, en Sudáfrica, mientras entrenaba en carretera. Las circunstancias del accidente aún deben ser esclarecidas, pero según indican las primeras noticias Burry fue atropellado por un taxi.

La carretera se vuelve a cobrar una nueva víctima tras la trágica pérdida de Iñaki Lejarreta hace unos días en similares circunstancias.

Burry Stander (September 16, 1987 – January 3, 2013) was a South African mountain biker, is the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup under-23 men's cross-country 2009 world champion.

In the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, held in Beijing, Stander finished 15th in the cross-country mountain bike race.

He won the Absa Cape Epic back to back with team partner Christoph Sauser in 2011 and 2012.

Stander died in a cycling accident in Shelly Beach, South Africa on 3 January 2013.

We cannot express our outrage adequately regarding the untimely and unnecessary death of Burry Stander, apparently hit by a taxi (to be confirmed) about an hour ago. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go to the Burry's wonderful and close-knit family. This will be the most difficult time they have ever faced and all we can do is pray that they are able to cope with such a loss. Burry was loved and respected by tens of thousands of people all over the world and they will feel the pain of the family. Burry we loved you in life and we will always love the legacy that you have left us in South Africa. You have been our finest mountain biker ever and one of the best in the world. May you Rest in Peace.
