mi tocaya , cecilia!

Cecilia Bartoli sings Agitata da due venti, Griselda, Vivaldi

Agitata da due venti,
freme l'onda in mar turbato
e 'l nocchiero spaventato
già s'aspetta a naufragar.
Dal dovere da l'amore
combattuto questo core
non resiste e par che ceda
e incominci a desperar.

Agitada por dos vientos, tiembla la ola en el mar turbulento
y el timonel asustado aguarda ya el naufragio.
Por deber y por amor está invadido este corazón;
no puede resistir ni ceder y comienza a desesperar.

With her new album "Sacrificium", Cecilia Bartoli uncovers the extraordinary world of the ‘Castrati’, and sings the glorious music they inspired.

For centuries, thousands of boys were sacrificed for the Beauty of Music. Cecilia Bartoli uncovers the extraordinary world of the 'Castrati', and sings the glorious music they inspired with her brand new album SACRIFICIUM.

The album is released internationally as a limited edition hardcover deluxe with a bonus audio disc on 2nd October 2009.

Sacrificium' tells the story of the castrati in all its complexity; its beauty, fascination, glamour, controversy and cruelty. These arias belong to the most virtuosic repertoire ever written for the human voice - from elaborate coloratura showpieces to beautiful slow arias, written to show the extraordinary breath capacity of many of the castrati. The album focuses on the Neapolitan school, which produced superstar castrati including Farinelli and Caffarelli and is almost entirely composed of world premiere recordings.

Cecilia Bartoli (Italian pronunciation: [tʃeˈtʃilja ˈbartoli]; born June 4, 1966 in Rome) is an Italian mezzo-soprano opera singer and recitalist. She is best-known for her interpretation of the music of Mozart and Rossini, as well as for her performances of lesser-known Baroque and classical music. She is known for having the versatility to play both soprano and mezzo roles, and is sometimes considered a soprano with a low tessitura. Bartoli's coloratura skill has earned her the title the Queen of Agility.
