Argonaut cycles
The story of Argonaut.
Argonaut is truly custom carbon, born and bred in the Pacific Northwest. We use carbon not because it’s pretty, not because it makes a good story, but because it makes the best bicycles. We are driven by a singular purpose: To take your unique performance requirements and transform them into something real.
Argonaut is no stranger to steel. We were baptized in fire and flux. Ben Farver started out making steel bikes for reasons of style and beauty. Steel is and will always be the benchmark by which we judge ride quality. But just like an origami schooner will disintegrate in a storm, there are limits to what steel can offer. Dress it up in the finest accoutrement: It’s still just a series of tubes. But just as steel can’t exist without carbon, you can’t make carbon feel truly alive without knowing steel. We know where we came from. More importantly, we know where we’re going.
Argonaut carbon bicycles are made entirely in the United States, and for that matter entirely in the Pacific Northwest. There are 30 years of industry leading composite experience behind its construction, driven by a true passion for the sport of cycling. We make the best bicycles because we want to ride the best bicycles.
Craft.
If you could examine the inside of every piece of your Argonaut you would see the same sculpted surfaces that distinguished our handcrafted steel frames. We are of the philosophy that if you’re going to go to all the trouble of making something, you might as well make it perfect.
We take as much pride in the refinement of the Argonaut frame’s design as we do its performance. Just because you can mold carbon in the shape of a spaceship, it doesn’t mean you should. The Argonaut frame is an exercise in restraint. Inspired by our original steel frames, we let form follow function.
Ordering.
For 2013 Argonaut is making road frames for a select number of customers. We want to make sure every customer gets the attention they deserve, and we meet our commitments to the minute. Please inquire about lead times and availability. First frames will ship January of 2013.

Customization.
We’ve grown to expect too little out of custom bicycles. If you’re considering an Argonaut you already know what you want. That it should fit you like a skinsuit is a given. To truly realize the benefits of custom re-defined, you need it to do more than fit. It should magnify your strengths. It should make you forget there is such a thing as a weakness. A bike built for you should make you climb faster, descend more confidently, and make every day spent on the bike the best day ever.
At Argonaut we meet your unique demands by tuning not just your frame’s external geometry, but what ultimately matters most: the material INSIDE your frame. Yes, we can change the length of your chainstays. Everyone can do that. But we can also change the composition and orientation of the fibers that create your chainstays.
We make a bike for you by manipulating every part of the frame.
Technology.
As a medium, carbon offers unlimited potential. Until Argonaut, you had to make a compromise: If you wanted the benefits of cutting-edge technology, you could go with one of the Big Three, “your” bike just one of hundreds marching down the same assembly line, “your” size just a letter on the tag of a T-shirt. If you wanted custom sizing, you could go with tube-to-tube or wrapped carbon, cobbled together without regard for the true benefits of the material. It’s impossible to make the best carbon fiber bicycle frame by cutting corners. So we don’t.
You need proof? Let’s dispense with the formalities: Our engineering and production facility has been a leader in composite manufacturing for over 30 years. We have advanced molding and carbon tooling down to a science. A 4-axis CNC machine? Check. A 50-foot automated plotter? Check. We are engineers who know carbon just as well as we know the trails and twisting descents of our Pacific Northwest. We can make anything. Better. Lighter. Stronger. We choose to make your bike.
Full disclosure: We geek out about torsional stiffness, and wax philosophical about fiber to resin ratios. We’re nerds like that. But words don’t win races. And jargon doesn’t make a 16% grade any less punishing. Imagine a carbon frame that takes all of what the Big Three has to offer and marries it with the relationship that only a custom builder can give you. That is Argonaut.
