Train tri with lance $friends (Craig Alexander, Chrissie Wellington,Greg Welch,Dave Scott and Jimmy Riccitello ), 26-28th may 2012 in hawaii
This is your opportunity to meet, train and mingle with Lance Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France champion and cycling legend, as he prepares for this new phase of his athletic career as a triathlete. Cultivate memories to last a lifetime and make a difference to an important cause by swimming, riding and running with Lance and friends May 26 – 28 on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Triathlon. It’s in his Blood.
Unlike many Texas youngsters who have their first athletic experience on a football field, twelve-year-old Lance Armstrong began his sporting career in a swimming pool. It didn't take long for Lance to quickly transition into triathlon and, at the age of 13, he won his first triathlon - a local IronKids race. Lance won the National Sprint Distance triathlon Championships at ages 16 and 17. Cycling soon emerged as Lance's passion and the rest is history.
Lance returned to the world of triathlon last year by competing in Xterra events. This year he is focused on Ironman events with the goal of racing the Ironman World Championships in Kona.Lance's goal on May 26th through 28th is to train, socialize, and have fun with his friends and you at a great Hawaiian resort while raising funds for a very special cause.
Along for the Ride (and Swim and Run),No champion goes it alone. Lance will be joined by world champion triathletes including...
Craig Alexander
Craig Alexander is a five-time World Champion. Inside Triathlon named him one of the “10 Greatest Male Ironman Triathletes of All Time”. Last year he accomplished something never done before by winning both the Ironman 70.3 and Ironman World Championships in the same year. His 2011 Kona win was one for the record books: Not only did he break the course record but, at age 38, he became the oldest male in history to win this race. Yet, you’re unlikely to find a more humble athlete at the top of any professional sport.
Craig is universally revered and respected by the sporting community, his training partners and even his fiercest rivals. Six-time Ironman World Champion, Dave Scott, has called Craig “the first true men’s champion the sport has seen in years.” His down to earth demeanor and kind, generous nature belie the intensity of his athletic drive and determination. His unmatched talent, wholesome values, and laid back Aussie vibe combine in an unaffected accessibility, making Craig an ideal role model for up-and-comers in the sport he loves.
Chrissie Wellington
Since bursting on the scene with her win at the 2007 Ironman Korea race, Chrissie Wellington has established herself as the Queen of the Ironman distance. Her resume is unmatched and her four Ironman Triathlon World Championships is her career headline. She is one of only three women to record three consecutive Kona victories keeping company with Natascha Badmann and Paula Newby-Fraser. She broke Newby-Fraser’s 17 year old Kona course record and she holds the five fastest times ever recorded by a woman over the Ironman distance. Chrissie also holds the world record at the Ironman distance (8: 18:13) set at Challenge Roth.
Chrissie Wellington is a true champion on and off the race course. She measures success by the positive impact of her athletic career on larger causes. She is taking 2012 off from racing to dedicate time to her chosen charities and to promote the sport and her new book, “A Life Without Limits.”
Greg Welch
Greg Welch’s rise to the top of the sport of triathlon was meteoric. A back of the pack finisher in his early races, Greg decided to get serious in 1990 after bumping around the sport for five years. A talented runner but a deficient swimmer, Greg, convinced that it was the only way he would improve, moved himself into the fastest lane at swim training even though he couldn't keep up. The move paid dividends as the diminutive Aussie burst on the scene by winning the 1990 ITU World Championship in his first try.Greg Welch is one of the greatest triathletes of all-time at all distances. He won world titles at all distances, including the Ironman World Championships (1994) and remains the only athlete in triathlon history to accomplish this feat.
Greg currently serves as the voice of Ironman Live and is recognized for his tremendous sense of humor and generous spirit. Since his retirement in 1999 Greg has enjoyed adding his humorous and insightful commentary as the TV commentator for the Sydney Olympics and other major events around the world. Last year Greg was inducted into the Australian Sport Hall of Fame - becoming the first Australian triathlete to receive this honor. Greg will be the master of ceremonies for the team dinner and other weekend events.
Dave Scott
Dave Scott is the most recognized athlete and coach in the sport of triathlon. He is a six-time Ironman World Champion.Dave’s triathlon career dates back to 1976 making him one of the sport’s original triathletes. He won his first Hawaii Ironman in 1980 and went on to win again in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1987. Dave’s popularity and performances fueled the early growth of the sport.
In 1993, he was honored for his contributions to the sports by becoming the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of Fame. To celebrate his induction, Dave, at age 40, returned to the 1994 Ironman World Championship after a five-year retirement. In one of the most stunning and memorable performances ever seen in the lava fields, Dave taught an impressive field of twenty-something pros a lesson in old school triathlon by placing second behind Greg Welch. This incredible performance earned Dave the nickname “The Man”.
Jimmy Riccitello
Jimmy Riccitello’s pro triathlon career spanned an incredible twenty years. He was one of the most fearsome cyclists ever seen in the sport and has won more than his fair share of races, including an Xterra World Championship. He was successful in all types of triathlons and all distances. Jimmy’s long career was driven simply by his love of the sport. He is a true student of triathlon with his eye for detail trained on all aspects of the sport - training, traveling, racing, and diet. With friends and training partners such as Lance Armstrong, Greg Welch, Mike Pigg, Paul Huddle, Scott Molina, and Scott Tinley, Jimmy’s learned from the best in the business.Jimmy may best be remembered as a proponent for professional triathletes where he has worn many hats, including athlete representative for the ITU and, more recently, as the Head Referee for Ironman.
