La franquicia IRONMAN pasa a manos de Wanda Group por 575 millones de euros
El grupo empresarial chino gestionará la marca de triatlones de media y larga distancia

Dalian Wanda Group, compañía fundada por el empresario Wang Jianlin, considerado el hombre más rico de China, ha alcanzado un acuerdo para la compra por 650 millones de dólares (unos 575 millones de euros) de World Triathlon Corporatrion (WTC), empresa encargada de gestionar la franquicia IRONMAN, la mayor marca de triatlones de media y larga distancia. IRONMAN ha organizado pruebas por todo el mundo desde hace 37 años y en la actualidad organiza cerca de 250 eventos al año.
“Esta adquisición traerá a China una competición “top” por primera vez y supone un hito en el desarrollo de la industria deportiva china”, indicaron fuentes de Wanda Group, que se convierte con esta adquisición en el mayor operador deportivo a nivel mundial tras las inversiones realizadas en Infront Sports & Media (una de las grandes empresas mundiales de márketing deportivo, esponsorización, producción y gestión de derechos de TV de eventos deportivos, adquirida en julio por 1.050 millones de euros) y en el Atlético de Madrid (club en el que invirtieron 45 millones de euros por el 20% de sus acciones).
La compañía china indicó que la compra de WTC y su franquicia IRONMAN responde a varios objetivos estratégicos, y refuerza su posición en el mundo del deporte: “Wanda ha construído una cadena de valor completa en la industria, que incluye la organización de eventos, la representación de atletas, el marketing de eventos y su retransmisión”, señalan fuentes de la empresa.
IRONMAN espera generar 183 millones de dólares en 2015, lo que supondría un incremento del 21 % sobre los cuatro últimos años. Wanda Group considera que es una oportunidad de negocio futuro al ser una marca que opera en todo el Mundo.

Chinese Conglomerate Acquires Ironman For $650 Million

As part of the transaction, Wanda Group will work with the current lending group and assume Ironman’s existing indebtedness. The acquisition by Wanda Group heralds yet another landmark investment in the sports sector following Infront Sports & Media and Atletico Madrid.

The Ironman brand is the largest participation sports platform in the world. Its flagship races are Ironman triathlons, which consists of a 3.9km (2.4 mile) swim, 180km (112 mile) bike and 42km (26.2 mile) run, and Ironman 70.3 triathlons, which consist of a 1.9km (1.2 mile) swim, 90km (56 mile) bike, and 21.1km (13.1 mile) run.
