Ivan raña gana medio ironman lanzarote

Ivan Raña vence el Ironman 70.3 de Lanzarote 2012

Ivan wins the first Ironman 70.3 here in Lanzarote

Natación (swim)1,9 km : Bici (bike) 90,1 km : Carrera (run) 21,1 km

The swim phase of this race takes place in Club la Santa's famous lagoon - two loops, one shorter and one longer, with a 30 meter run between them. The lagoon is very shallow and the water gets pretty cloudy with a big race.

Behind Rasmus Petraeus we have Daniel Halksworth, Stephen Bayliss, Peru Alfaro, Ivan Raña Fuentes and Pedro Miguel Reig Jover. All pretty close still.

The bike phase is fantastic and challenging one. Total elevation is 1768 Meters, and there's one very long and particularly tough climb at Tabayesco which goes from sea level to over 530 meters. From there, it's a fantastic fast downhill section, so the riders will be hoping for dry roads. With the wind today, the run down to Famara will be tough - although it's slightly downhill, they'll need to be pedalling hard. place.

Men going through our checkpoint at Tahiche now. Schildknecht (5) is leading, Degham (23) second. Then there's a 20 second gapy to Jammaer, Halksworth, Alfaro, Raña Fuentes. Another two minutes and we have Reig Jover, Bayliss, Costes, Degasperi, Bachor. Some big names there!"

Swiss Schildknecht still leading the bike from Toumy Degham at Tabayesco.Top ten men half way up the fearsome climb at Tabayesco. Schildnecht, Degham, Raña Fuentes, Jammaer, Bachor, Alfaro, Stein, Halksworth, Degasperi.

The men have been through Teguise now - very fast - downhill with the wind behind them! First through was Schildknecht, followed by Del Corral, who has really moved up the field. He's followed by Jammaer, Jaberg, Van der Meer, Bayliss, Strijk, Calle, Cigana, Reig Jover, Kung and Herlbauer.

Ivan Raña Fuentes from the Spanish Olympic team is into transition in third place

At the first turn on the run Schildknecht still leading. Raña Fuentes has moved up to second place, having overtaken Degham. Exciting stuff at the front!

Big change at the front Ivan Raña Fuentes has taken the lead! It's Raña Fuentes first attempt at this distance and he's looking good at the turn on lap two.
