DECA IRON ITALY final, gana greisen, lopez 9º
Welcome to DECA IRON ITALY -
We are happy to announce the first italian Ultra Triathlon race.
Born from an idea by Roberto Lendaro,Giorgio Alessi and Vincenzo Catalano this race will take place (for its first edition) in Pergusa(Enna-Sicily island).
It is our intention to held the race every two years, changing location from Pergusa(Sicily) to Desenzano(Garda Lake).
The race is untipical ultra triathlon one in the way that there is an everyday brake after each competition.
We think that the tipical "decaironman" formula (38 km swimming-1800 km biking-42,195 km running) is too hard for athletes, so we chose the "one iron distance" for ten days;convinced that this formula could be more "easy" by everyone;giving to athletes the possibility to run how many "iron distance" triathlons they could.
The organisation decided to accept at least 40 athletes, giving the possibility to sign up in the race,at first, to all experienced ultra triathlon athletes.
This decision could be not so popular but we decided in this way as a thanksgiving to all athletes that travelled all around the world racing, spending time and money to dedicate theirselves to this big passion called ultra triathlon.
In the last years, so many races in ultra triathlon world had no respect for "historycal" athletes in this way.
We are indeed honoured and proud to join the wellknown "ENDUROMAN ULTRA TRIATHLON CIRCUIT" and being part of their races all around the world.
Hoping that YOU could enjoy our race, our land and our hospitality we are just looking forward to 30 september 2011, when our adventure will start.
Stay with us!

Giorgio Alessi
We can resume them as follows:
1.Swimming: A person of the supporting crew is allowed to hand out food and drinks to the athlete, but only from the opposite side of where the officials are taking the time and counting the lenghts. No other person than the officials (race marshall) decide, when the swimming is over.
2.Cycling: Support vehicles are strictly prohibited on the bike course. The supporters may hand out food, drinks, clothing and spare parts at the side of the bike course, and help with repair works on the bike. Service and control vehicles of the organizer will help, in case of breakdowns on the track.
The bike course is not fully illuminated at night. Each participant has to make sure, he’s wearing sufficient light on the bike and the clothes at all times during the cycling! Please don’t forget batteries and replacement lights!
Traffic rules must be followed. A safety helmet is compulsory. The race number must be worn on the back and has to be visible at all times.
Cycling is a single time trial, without any accompanyment. Slipstream cycling behind or next to another athlete is prohibited. The minimum distance between the back wheel of the athlete in front, and the front wheel of the athlete behind, is 10 meters. Sideways it is 2 meters.
Passing has to be completed within 30 seconds. Athletes that have been passed, are responsible to reinsure the minimum distance again and can only then start a new passing.Race marshall can warn fallible athletes (with a yellow card), speak out a penalty of 6 minutes (with a black card) or disqualify immediately (with a red card). Motorised race marshalls will make sure the rules are followed.
During transfert from swimming pool to bike/run circuit not all streets can be blocked completely, therefore the athletes have to look out for traffic. The traffic rules and the international traffic law have to be followed at all times.
3.Running: Each participant may be accompanied by runners. The supporting runners are not allowed to run in front of the athlete. The supporting team may hand the athlete clothes, food and drinks. The clothing has to be appropriate for the weather conditions.
The course is not fully illuminated at night. Make use of reflecting clothes. The organizer reserves the right, to point this out and to speak out time penalties for non-compliance. The race number must be worn visibly at all times.
You can walk or run, but not use any other aid. You have to finish the competition with your own strength. Make sure that you are registered by the officials.
4.If necessary, the medical team / competition management can take you out of the race. You can get massages and medical treatment at any time in the event center.
5.You can take a break during the race at any point of the course, but the race has to be continued in the same spot again. If you interrupt the race for more than 30 minutes, or if you want to give up the race, the race committee has to be informed immediately. If the athlete failes to meet this rule, he may be be disqualified!
6.Each participant must be thoroughly familiar with the competition rules and the race courses before the beginning of the competition. During and after the competition, complaints and claims of any kind will not be accepted.
Anyone not following these rules can be disqualified. When rules are violated, it is the responsability of the race marshall to make a definite and binding decision.
7.Bike storage: You and your crew are responsible fort he safety of your bike and equipment. The organizer is not liable for the damage / loss of your material.
8.Without the medical certificate and the signed disclaimer, the start of the race is not possible.
9.The organizer reserves the right to do a doping control. A well trained medical team will stand by for emergencies. The medical team recommends drinking regularly, even after the race. Medical team will standy by during the race. Each athlete is responsible for a sufficent insurance (illness and accidents).
