One of the biggest hassles of backpacking is finding a way to get your sweat-soaked clothes clean. A local laundromat? Sure that’s an option, but what if you’re in the middle of nowhere?
Ashley Newland designed a bag to wash clothes while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. The Scrubba Wash Bag includes a flexible internal washboard. To use, add detergent, water and clothes into the bag. Functioning like traditional washboards, Newland says the bag only needs 40 seconds of scrubbing to get clothes clean. Rinse, hang dry and that gross musk should be gone. The video below demonstrates how it works.
The Scrubba weighs about 180 grams. Collapsed, it’s about the size of a can of soda. A fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo has reached its $2,500 goal about a month to go. The Scrubba will be available in April.
