Switch Aero System: One Bike, Two Rides
Quick-Release Aerobars + Dual-Position Seatpost: Switch back and forth on-the-fly between a road position and an aero position.
"Thanks to Redshift Sports, triathletes can have their cake and then ride it off in either the aero or road position." - BikeRumor
"Upstart company Redshift Sports promises to add that same capability to nearly any road bike with its new Switch Aero system, while making the conversion much easier, too." - BikeRadar
Get the Most Out of Your Road Bike
The Switch Aero System lets you get the most out of your road bike. The system’s Quick-Release Aerobars and Dual-Position Seatpost allow you to transition on-the-fly between your normal road position and a true aero position, without even slowing down. The system is perfect for cyclists, triathletes, or anyone looking for a comfortable and aerodynamic alternate riding position.
The Switch Aerobars are different than any other clip-on aerobars. They have a patent-pending quick-release mechanism that lets you attach or remove them in seconds without using tools – since there’s no time-consuming setup or breakdown, you can choose the perfect setup every time you head out the door.
It takes more than a set of aerobars to achieve a proper aero position. The Switch Dual-Position Seatpost lets you move the saddle forward on-the-fly, replicating the steeper seat tube angle of a tri bike. The steeper geometry opens up your hip angle and maintains proper leg extension, letting you ride more comfortably and efficiently in the aero position.
The Switch Aero System gives you the flexibility to choose the best setup for every part of every ride. If you’re going out for a group ride, you can leave the aerobars at home and ride a pure road bike. But if you’re racing in a triathlon or doing a charity ride, you can throw the aerobars on and choose the best position for every climb, flat, and descent.
Why is an aero position so important?
When riding at speed, more than 75% of your energy goes to overcoming wind resistance, and the vast majority of that resistance is caused by your body. The single most cost-effective way to reduce drag is to improve your body position on the bike. Using the Switch Aero System on your road bike can save you more than 3 minutes during an Olympic distance triathlon, and more than 13 minutes during an Ironman-length race!
Benefits
Versatility – get the speed and efficiency of a tri bike without giving up the climbing, maneuverability, and comfort of a road bike. Choose the best position for every part of every ride.
Speed – hammer the flats in the aero position and spin up the climbs in the road position. Ride faster on every part of the course.
Simplicity – switch between the road and aero positions without even slowing down. Attach or remove the aerobars in seconds – no tools are required, and they’ll be in the exact same position every time you attach them.
Comfort – relieve pressure on your hands and wrists by switching to an alternate position. Stay fresher longer.
Fit – dial in a perfect fit in both the road and aero positions. The aerobars and seatpost offer incredible adjustability to fit any rider.
Safety – carve down a winding descent or weave through traffic. The road position gives you the maneuverability and visibility you need in demanding situations. The aerobars also have a built-in safety latch that prevents accidental release.
Switch Quick-Release Aerobars
The Switch Aerobars mount to standard road handlebars (25.4, 26.0, and 31.8mm) using two small handlebar clamps. These clamps are the only parts that remain on the bike when you remove the aerobars. In order for the clamps to mount securely to the handlebar you must have 22mm (7/8in) of full diameter handlebar on either side of the stem. If you have any questions about bike compatibility contact us.
The Switch Aerobars are incredibly adjustable: the extensions and armrests can be adjusted independently to dial in a perfect aero fit. In addition, aerobar backers will have a choice of three different aluminum extension shapes (L-bend, S-bend, and straight) or they can choose to upgrade to carbon available in two shapes (L-bend and S-bend).
We’re also offering two accessories that integrate seamlessly with the Switch Aerobars: a water bottle mount and a bike computer mount. The water bottle mount places your bottle between the aerobars to minimize drag and maximize accessibility. The computer mount integrates with the base handlebar clamp so that your computer stays with the bike even when you remove the aerobars.
Switch Dual-Position Seatpost
The patent-pending Dual-Position Seatpost lets you switch your saddle on-the-fly between a normal road position and an aero position that's similar to the setup of a tri bike. The steeper effective seat tube angle opens up your hip angle and maintains proper leg extension, letting you ride more comfortably and efficiently in the aero position. The seatpost is stable in both positions – a spring-loaded stop holds it securely in place until you decide to change positions.
The seatpost will fit bikes with seat tube diameters between 27.2 and 31.6mm (the vast majority of bikes), and saddles with standard 7mm diameter rails (the vast majority of saddles).
The Switch Seatpost includes all the same adjustability found in a standard seatpost. And since some riders prefer more forward saddle tilt while riding in an aero position, the seatpost includes an additional adjustment that tilts the saddle forward by up to five degrees when you move from the road to the aero position.
Both the aerobars and seatpost are made from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminum. The weight of the aerobars is comparable to existing clip-on aerobars, and the seatpost is only ~60g (1/8 lb) heavier than a typical road bike seatpost.
